Question:
I'm looking for a source for antique beads. I am looking for a
special gift for my Great Aunt who loves doing beadwork.
Answer:
- I can't remember the name, but I am getting (very soon) a catalogue
in the mail that promised to have a great supply of antique beads - when I
get it I'll post the name and address to the group, so keep checking.
-You may wish to try this magazine, specializing in unusual and antique beads:
Ornament
121 S. La Cienega Blvd.
Los Angeles, CA 90035
213-652-9914
According to my clipping (which is about 8 years old!), it costs $25.00 per
year to subscribe.
I'd do this first: Stop in your favorite bookstore (preferably one that also
carries older books and magazines which you can get at a discount!) and ask
for a copy of * Ornament *. Buy just one or two copies, as recent as
possible, and search through the ads for suppliers of antique beads. Very
often the ads are repeated in each issue so a couple of issues should cover
your needs. I know that the magazine is still around as I saw a copy of it
recently in my *favorite* antiquariat. BTW, these 'slightly used' bookstores
are wonderful sources for all kinds of reference works, value guides,
magazines, etc., on art, antiques, and specialized hobbies of all kinds. Very
often some value guides are quickly out of print and hard to obtain. I always
find copies in this type store
