Question:
I am considering making a beaded curtain for our
hallway. The largest beads I want to use would be
1 cm.
I don't know what materials I want to use...
I know it can't be very heavy, because we willl have
to walk through it.
I also need to know the best material to use for
stringing material.
Any ideas?
Experience?
Suppliers?
Answer:
-a lot depends on what kind of look you want! Back in the 60's The
Beadery made a _ton_ of money selling beads already molded on thread for
use as bead curtains. Lots of these items are still available in a few
places, and they have a few advantages: low cost, light weight, big choice
of colors. ALso many loose molded beads are suitable for bead curtains.
AMBUSH has lots of our items on their Web site.
Of, course, our beads _are_ all plastic! Which is a dirty word for many!
Alternatives which are still light in weight would be various wooden
beads, which make a great noise when you push through the bead curtain!
-Ususally these are made with light weight plastic beads. Enterprise in
Fla would have them or Cousins (their wholesale outlet) if you buy
wholesale. There are many sold now fairly inexpensively. In my bead store
we sell very nice ones for $34.99 and you should be able to find them in
bead stores near you if you want to avoid the time.
