Question:
I'm looking at this bead collar here:

(copy & paste if it wraps)
...and I'm wondering, for this kind of collar necklace, where there's no
clasp but it just wraps around the neck, what are the beads strung on?
Some kind of wire, obviously, but does anyone know specifically what it is?
Answer:
-I have one similar. It has a clasp in the back. You can get the wire it is
made of at any beading/jewelry supply store. Size of the wire would depend
on the size of the bead you use.
-it's called memory wire - it's taut metal wire that holds its
shape. they'll have it at bead stores or craftsy stores. i've
also seen it at michael's
-What kind of detail do you need about the wire? Do you have a nickel
allergy? I'd say it's a nickel based metal wire. Most are unless you pay
big bucks and get silver or gold wire.
I have a couple necklaces that hold on like this, sans clasp. The wire
is rigid so it holds its shape on your neck, that's how it stays on. It
isn't thick though, so it doesn't choke you at all. I've never had
trouble with this kind of necklace losing its shape/hold.
