Question:
Does anyone know of a source where I can get glass beads (nothing fancy,
just plain one-colored ones) with holes that are big enough to string
elastic or leather cord through? It seems to me that 99.9% of glass beads
out there have holes that only tigertail will fit through. I hope someone
can prove me wrong?!!!
Answer:
Sure. Rings and Things, Fire Mountain Gems, Beads Galore, and Beyond
Beadery all have plain, one-color glass beads with holes big enough to
string elastic or leather cord through. Admittedly, some of the beads
are tile beads or crow beads, which are big enough to string leather
_strips_ through, but all of those places have some beads with holes
big enough for leather cord or elastic. Art glass and dichroic glass,
as well as the larger chevron beads and other trade beads, also have
large holes, but they're not plain, of course. Some of these same
suppliers, as well as Rio Grande, also have sterling silver and
gold-filled beads with large holes.
Most catalogs either specify the hole size or explicitly mention large
holes. The Fire Mountain Gems Spring sale catalog has life-sized
photos of the holes of their glass and wooden beads.
