Question:
What are Delica beeds? Are they smaller then seed beads?
Answer:
-Japanese seed beads made of precisely cut glass, making
them uniform in shape and size and color. They have large holes compared
to their diameter.
-You can get seed beads and cylinder beads (ie. Delicas, Toho Antiques)
in similar sizes - 11, 8, etc. Some sizes are only available in seed beads.
-I have found that 11/0 cylinder beads (like Delicas) are much smaller,
about 2/3 the size of 11/0 seed beads. Cylinders and seeds can't be used
together if you expect the finished piece to be smooth, flat and regular.
I don't get why they are given the same size number if they are not, in
fact, the same size.
-Delicas are shaped like little cans (straight sides). Seed beads are shaped
like little doughnuts.
